MATCH REPORTS - MARCH
Tuesday 3rd March 2020 Ware 1 Tooting & Mitcham 1
Saturday 8th March 2020 Hanwell Town 2 Tooting & Mitcham 5
Tooting’s resurgent form continued this afternoon, as they picked up a hard fought three points at second placed Hanwell Town F.C., following straight on from the positive second half performance on Tuesday night which saw them bring their run of three league defeats to an end as they earned a draw at fourth paced Westfield.
The Terrors got off to a flying start today, taking the lead in only the 3rd minute. It came when a telling ball was put high into the Hanwell six yard box by Abdel Sahnoun from the left hand side. The best Hanwell ‘keeper Hugo Sobte could do was to claw it away, but only as far as Dan Williams (pictured) who was lurking in a dangerous position about 14 yards out from goal. The in form Tooting striker dug the ball out from under his feet, made room for the shot and sent his left footed strike past Sobte and into the back of the net. Twenty minutes later, Tooting doubled their lead with a goal from nothing when Daryl Coleman found the ball at his feet. Seeing Sobte in the Hanwell goal slightly out of position, the Tooting midfielder struck the ball low into the bottom corner of the net. However, just after the half hour mark, the home side got themselves back into the game. It followed a free kick for Tooting on 32 minutes that was floated in towards the penalty spot. It was easily cleared however and Hanwell countered quickly and accurately, attacking Tooting down their right hand side before the ball was put in by Ogo Obi. There was a further opportunity for the Terrors to stretch their lead five minutes later, when Dan Williams broke clear and found himself one of one with the ‘keeper but this time, Sobte did enough to smother the ball and deny the Tooting striker. Again, it was a good start to the half from Tooting and after 53 minutes their two goal advantage had been restored. A long ball over the top from Abdel Sahnoun found Dan Williams running into the right hand side of the Hanwell penalty area. As soon as he received the ball, he checked his run and pulled the ball back across the face of the penalty area, where it found Danny Bassett who struck the ball first time with his left foot and into the back of the net. The hosts continued to battle though and got themselves back into the game for a second time on 76 minutes. It came by way of a superbly struck free kick which was curled beyond the reach of James Shaw and into the corner of the goal by left back Joel Jacobs. It was a tense final ten minutes or so for Tooting as Hanwell continued to press for the equaliser however that pressure was suddenly released in the second minute of stoppage time as Dan Williams (pictured) was sent clear down the left hand side, before cutting in towards goal and striking the ball crisply into the roof of the net to make the points safe. And there was still more to come in the final minute of added time. This time it was substitute, Klajdi Cani (pictured) who found himself bursting through the middle of the Hanwell backline before sliding the ball past the advancing Sobte from about 13 yards out.
