Saturday 6 July 2019                 Tooting and Mitcham United 2 Molesey 0 (Friendly)

Tooting’s pre-season got off to an encouraging start this afternoon as a dominant first half performance set up a comfortable victory against a battling Molesey side.

In a strong opening forty five minutes played almost entirely in the Molesey half Tooting looked comfortable passing the ball across the full width of the pitch remaining patient and looking for the pass that would open up the opposition defence. The breakthrough came on 15 minutes following a neat passing move when Hady Ghandour found himself on the edge of the box with the ball at his feet. He made room for a shot which took the slightest of deflections as it kept low before finding the back of the net. Eleven minutes later, the lead was doubled after the Terrors won themselves a free kick just outside the penalty area on the left hand side. The ball was curled in right footed towards goal by Daryl Coleman. The Molesey ‘keeper was unable to gather the shot cleanly and the impressive Nebay Haile was on hand to slot the ball home from seven yards out.

Tooting continued to impress in the second half however Molesey put in a far more competitive performance than they had in the first. Tooting made a number of changes in the second half to ensure that everyone got some game time however as the game played itself out, there was no further addition to the half time score.

Tooting made it two wins from two in pre-season, clocking up their second 2-0 win in the space of four days as they took on new tenants, Tooting Bec.

The first goal came on 23 minutes when Shamal Edwards floated the ball into goal (pictured) from the edge of the box after breaking clear when Bec lost possession of the ball. The only other goal of the game came 5 minutes into the second period when midfielder David "Didi" Castanho cut inside and struck a long range effort from outside the box to put the Terrors 2-0 up.

Tooting made it three wins from three today, not to mention their third consecutive clean sheet, with an impressive performance at BetVictor Isthmian League Premier Division side, Carshalton Athletic.

Despite dominating for the majority of the first half, the opening period ended goalless. Whilst Hady Ghandour and Nebay Haile continually pressed the Robins’ backline, the Tooting triumvirate of Daryl Coleman, Dominic Morgan-Griffiths and Saidou Khan controlled the game from midfield. Meanwhile, the back line of Dean Hamlin, Sol Patterson-Bohner and Nathan Daly remained calm and collected looking for every opportunity to set wing backs Tope Fadahunsi and Alexi Filipe free down the flanks as ‘keeper James Shaw was little more than a spectator for much of the half.

With a number of half time changes, Carshalton had a far greater share of the early exchanges than they did in the opening forty five minutes. However it was the Terrors who went ahead when Alex Filipe slotted the ball home, right footed, from about 10 yards out on 53 minutes following some nice work in the box between Nebay Haile and Dominic Morgan-Griffiths. It was then Tooting’s turn to make several changes and it was one of the replacements, Omari Hibbert, who doubled the Terrors’ lead on 74 minutes, when he slotted the ball neatly past the onrushing ‘keeper from just inside the box after being played in with a precision pass from Dominic Morgan-Griffiths. The scoring was rounded off five minutes later when two more substitutes combined, Razzaq Coleman making a run down the right hand side before crossing the ball across the face of the six yard box where Danny Bassett was on hand at the far post to flick the ball into the corner of the net with his back to goal. There was one further chance for Tooting five minutes from time when Coleman created an opportunity for himself on the edge of the box however his powerful strike rattled against the crossbar before flying away for a goal kick.

Wednesday 17 July 2019          Tooting and Mitcham United 3 Reading XI 2 (Friendly)

Tooting made it four wins from four in pre-season this evening as a youthful Terrors side defeated an equally youthful Reading side in convincing style despite conceding two late goals which made the scoreline a lot closer than it should have been.

It was a flying start for Tooting when they took the lead after only 3 minutes. Reading’s defence was caught sleeping when left wing back Ryan Williams to a quick free kick, playing the ball down the left hand flank from midway inside his own half. The ball was played right into the path of Junior Timite who controlled the ball, took it into the penalty and cut inside to make room for himself before striking a right footed shot past ‘keeper Liam Driscoll, and into the far corner of the net. Tooting continued to play some great passing football with Dominic Morgan-Griffiths pulling the strings from the centre of midfield, however, despite their dominance in the opening forty five minutes, The Terrors were unable to add to their early strike before the break.

A number of changes were made by both sides at the interval however Tooting still had the better of the early second half exchanges without being quite so dominant as they had been in the opening period. The lead was doubled though on 56 minutes when Dominic Morgan-Griffiths took a free kick from a fairly central position just inside the Reading half. He played a raking cross field pass to wing back Darryl Harrison out on the left hand side. He in turn sent in a stinging left footed cross towards the edge of the six yard box, where it was met by Hady Ghandour (pictured) who steered the ball past the substitute Reading ‘keeper with the outside of his right boot, and inside the near post. The game then appeared to be sewn up when Danny Bassett made it 3-0 on 77 minutes, when he scored with a low, left footed shot from just inside the box, after breaking clear, However in the closing stages, The Terrors did begin to tire and conceded two late goals, the first when Adam Liddle turned the ball in on 84 minutes after Tooting had failed to clear a corner and again in the final minute of the game when Ethan Coleman sent a fierce left footed shot across the angle of the Tooting goal and into the far side of the net.

A goal late in the second half for Shamal Edwards and a 90th minute header from David Carty, made it pre-season win number five for the Terrors as they defeated Corinthian Casuals 2-0 in today’s lunchtime kick off.

Monday 22 July 2019                Tooting and Mitcham United 2 Greenwich Borough 1 (Friendly)

Tooting made it six consecutive wins in pre-season as they defeated Greenwich Borough this evening in a competitive, and sometimes frantic, match.

Despite the Terrors’ dominance in the opening forty five minutes, they had to wait until the 41st before they finally made the breakthrough. It came as Hady Ghandour (pictured) steered a low right footed effort from the angle of the penalty area, round the Borough ‘keeper and just inside the far post, after being played in by Dominic Morgan-Griffiths. Two minutes later, the leader was doubled as Didi Castanho found the back of the net with a right footed effort from 12 yards out. Once again, Dominic Morgan-Griffiths was the provider.

Whilst Tooting remained the stronger side in the second half, the visitors gave a far better account of themselves, pulling a goal back with a terrific finish on 52 minutes after Lex Beeden lost possession pushing forward down the right. Following this scare, they were no further scoring opportunities for the visitors despite their increased possession in midfield and Tooting stayed in control as they played out the remainder of the period.
