We caught up with former Tooting & Mitcham United player Saidou Khan to find out how professional Football was treating him after his Summer switch to Conference South side Maidstone United. Saidou came along to the Campus Society Stadium to cheer on his former team against Uxbridge last Saturday, as Maidstone had no fixture due to the FA Cup.
Good to see you down here at the Campus Society Stadium again Saidou, what made you come along today?
Just came down to see the boys (laughs). I saw they had a home game, and that they are doing well in the league, so I thought I will come down and see for myself! Also wanted to see if they missed me or not, and clearly they don’t! (looking at their league position)
Did you enjoy your time at Tooting & Mitcham United?
Yeah I really did, I was at Tooting at youth team level and throughout college and made it to the first team and even came back after leaving. It feels like home for me, so really nice to come back. Really I am always here (laughs), if my game gets called off or we have no game I always check to see if Tooting are playing at home!
Things are going well for you are at Maidstone United, how are you enjoying your time out in Kent?
I would say it is cold! That is the only thing I don’t enjoy about it. I am full time now and the level is decent as well, so I am enjoying playing at the club.
You have been building your reputation with several appearances in leagues team of the week, how good is it to be recognised in that way?
Yeah it is alright of course, I just don’t let it get to my head, as need to keep playing for the team, play game by game and hope for the best. I have done well so far, so need to keep it up.
We probably should talk about that goal away at Blackpool in the FA Cup a few weeks ago, do you want to talk us through it….
It felt amazing, I knew it was going to come, I was looking forward to the game for the whole week and the best thing I wanted to do was score a goal!
